Have a say
In today's world, it's easy to think that one voice doesn't make a difference. We'd argue that it can and does at the local level. Over the last few years, there have been several opportunities for members to influence what happens in our town, including:
- Members were consulted regarding the content of a submission to Council about the development application for a Temporary Workers Accommodation Facility (see the March 2016 edition of Woodburn NOW for details of the Chamber's submission).
- Members debated the rules for the new Constitution of the Woodburn Chamber, and whether the Chamber should move to a business focus or retain the community-wide focus.
- Members suggested and voted on various projects for a $5,000 grant application, with ideas ranging from fencing for the playground in the park to the installation of a soft-fall surface in the tennis courts.
Participate
There are so many different reasons to become involved in the Chamber - a sense of purpose, to give back to the community, to influence decisions, to learn new skills, to meet people, to get to know your town or to gain access to member benefits. Whatever your reason, the committee believes that involvement should be rewarding and fun!
You can participate a little...
You can attend the general meetings, which are held about four times a year, with various topics and presenters. It's a great way to find out what's going on in town and meet other people, without any commitment. In 2018, meetings have been scheduled for 5.30pm on the following Mondays: 12 February, 18 June, 15 October (AGM) and 10 December (Christmas party). However, additional meetings will be convened when the need arises, so subscribe to Woodburn NOW for updates.
...occasionally...
You can get involved in projects on an occasional basis. For example, in the past the Chamber has held working bees, organised events and applied for grants. There will be occasions when the Chamber needs volunteers with activities spanning the practical to the technical.
...or a lot!!
You can nominate to be a committee member at the annual AGM or when vacancies arise.

Strengthen your advocate
We encourage you to join the Chamber, even if you don't want to participate because:
- Numbers matter. Whether it's writing a grant application or lobbying government, more members means a louder voice.
- The Chamber does a lot on the smell of an oily rag! The Chamber is a not-for-profit, volunteer organisation. Your small annual contribution makes a significant difference to our capacity to establish and run events, lobby for infrastructure funding, facilitate community development and more.
Discounts
The Chamber is committed to welcoming non-members to participate in Chamber activities. However, in recognition of the financial support of members, the Chamber will offer member discounts when appropriate.
